Exclusive Interview with Blind Bob
Feb. 16, 2006

CM: Thanks for taking time out of your schedule to talk to us today.
BB: Hey, no problem.

CM: Let’s talk about the band’s last release, Spaghetti Western
BB: Ya that was a lot of fun to record. We all had a good time.

CM: How about the name of the CD? Where did that come from?
BB: We stopped by a horse ranch outside of Boston and took some photos. We borrowed some western hats and ponchos and stuff and posed on the horses. After that we started talking about the great Clint Eastwood movies like “A few dollars more” or “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly”. Those flicks were made for the Italian market. I thought that they were pretty cool. Scotty had written a song called son of a gun that had the feel of that type of movie. We had just recorded it and we thought it would be a good lead off tune. Then somebody said we should call the next CD Spaghetti Western. We all thought it would be a good match.

CM: Do you think that the title is a little misleading?
BB: I suppose that it could be. I have only heard of one complaint. But let’s put it this way. If you know us at all then you know we are hard to label. We play all kinds of music, Country, Rockabilly, R & B, Rock, whatever. A great man said that there are two kinds of music, good and bad. We play what ever we feel like playing as long as it’s good. The second song on that CD is an R & B song and it’s been number one on Rockabilly Radio out of Baltimore for weeks now. So go figure.

CM: Could that work against you? Not being classified as a particular musical style.
BB: Look, the way we see it is this. None of us, you, me or our fans, are here for a long time so we might as well have a good time. Hey, that’s how to classify us. A band that has a good time and wants everyone else to have a good time too. Let’s have fun. If it aint fun why should we play this stuff? More importantly, why should you listen?

CM: I see. That’s a good point. Tell me about your next project. The Five and Dime Quartet.
BB: Well, I think that this is our best CD to date. We recorded it at Sun Records in Memphis Tennessee. It was a blast to do. The name came about when I saw a poster of the Million Dollar Quartet on the wall at Sun. I said that if those guys were only worth a million bucks then we are only worth about 15 cents. Just a Five and Dime Quartet.

CM: What can we expect from this CD?
BB: Well right of the bat you will hear a lot of energy and a lot of fun. The very first song is a jumping tribute to one of our favorite TV personalities. I can tell you who it is but you are going to love it.

CM: What else will we get?
BB: We have a lot of new tunes that we wrote and a couple of tunes that where given to us by friends and fellow artists. Over all I think we have a few hits on that disk. I can’t wait to put it out there.

CM: And when can we expect it?
BB: We are shooting for a mid March release.

CM: Who did you work with during the sessions?
BB: Man! We worked with James Lott who engineered and produced the CD. He’s a great guy, very talented. His help was big. Also Billy Swan worked with us. He gave us one of his tunes called “I can help” to cover. He had a big hit with that back in the day. Another great guy.

CM: It sounds like you made some good friends down there.
BB: Believe it! We talk via the internet on a regular basis. When we do our swing through Tennessee this summer we hope to go back into the studio with them.

CM: I understand that you guys are now with Black Rose records.
BB: That’s right. Scotty made that deal for us. I’m not 100% sure how he made the connection but you know that Scotty is a charmer. The president of Black Rose is Al Cocorochio. He’s another great guy and a pisano. We have been able to win him over. We think that with his help 2006 will be the best year yet for the Vegas Valentinos.
